Realf Heygate

Ex-Vitro

Realf Heygate is a London based painter who uses 3D rendering software to further probe his interest in the copy. In taking museum artefacts through varied modes of reproduction, he aims to explore the archaeology of the object’s image, rather than solely the object itself.

The word ‘copy’ widely has derogatory status. This is despite roots as ‘copious’, implying abundance. Through use of the copy, Realf Heygate approaches the original as the source of a long lineage. Recently he has been drawn to ancient vessels. As inherently multiple and serial objects, they symbolise the copy. These vessels will be digitally thrown, utilising this platform as a ground for endless interactions.
